TVs, computer screens, tablets and mobiles are everywhere – and they are all exceedingly vulnerable to water, not only as a liquid but, far more insidiously, as a vapour. Many of the films used to seal the screens and keep water out are next to useless at keeping out water vapour – as it can permeate straight through them. The problem can be made even worse when you realise it may pass through the adhesive as well, and even the manufacturing process can make a big difference.
Versaperm, a specialist in vapour permeation technology, has designed an instrument that can accurately measure this problem – not just for samples of the film but for the complete sealed and finished LED or plasma screen as well. The system even works with the latest flexible screens which can be even more susceptible.
The instrument offers an advanced fast and efficient way to test and measure this vapour permeability as well as for electronic enclosures, components, materials, flat samples or even complete products. It is simple to use, fast and extremely accurate.
Results are typically accurate in the Parts Per Million (PPM) range (PPB in some cases). The system can produce results for several material samples, screens or enclosures at a time as well as measure them under a variety of environmental conditions.companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.

TECHNICAL NOTE: Although liquid water is easy to keep out with a good seal, water vapour will still permeate in through the actual material that makes the seal or enclosure. Many traditional water barrier materials, such as cellulose, EVOH or PVOH, are virtually useless as vapour barriers – which can lead to catastrophic failure.
